Maenam: Family-Style Thai with a Twist
Maenam is one of the many popular restaurants under Chef Angus An’s belt where they serve up family-style Thai food using fresh, local ingredients.
I’ve only recently started enjoying Thai Ice Tea and Maenam serves up a nice, albeit sweet, variety with Bot Tra Thai tea, palm sugar, and milk. Our meal began with the Green Papaya Salad ($12) with long beans, carrots, garlic, roasted peanuts, bird’s eye chilies, and dried shrimp. This is a good salad if you like the crunchiness of the papaya mixed with a tart-spicy kick.
The Pad Thai ($16) is a classic Thai dish with prawns, tofu, egg, and peanuts stir-fried with rice noodles and tamarind. The tamarind gives it a more robust taste compared to ketchup (which is used in some restaurants).
The Geng Gati Seafood Curry ($17) is a turmeric-style curry with tender young coconut mixed with the seafood to produce a heavenly rich dish. This was my favourite of the bunch.
If you enjoy the food at Maenam, you have to try their hawker-style street food outlet (Longtail Kitchen) at the New West Quay.
