Toby’s Pub & Grill (North Van): Brunch in North Van

As the name would suggest, Toby’s Pub & Grill is a – wait for it – pub and grill joint with locations on Commercial Drive in Vancouver and Main Street in North Vancouver. In this post, I’ll be talking about the North Van location which we visited for brunch on a couple of occasions.

If you have a hearty appetite, you might want to order the Irishman ($14) which includes 3 eggs, 3 strips of bacon, 3 sausages, and a slice of ham all served up with toast and potatoes. You’re definitely not walking away from this dish without feeling full. Loved the thick and crispy bacon!

I opted for the Pulled Pork Benny ($13) with house-pulled pork and caramelized onions.

There was plenty of yolk porn in this dish mixed with the fork-tender pulled pork.

We came back for a brunch revisit and tried the Chorizo Pepper Pot ($16) with roasted pepper, green onions, mushrooms, and roasted corn pico with 2 poached eggs smothered in hollandaise sauce over hash browns. There’s a bit of a kick to this dish but not overly so.

In addition, we ordered the Dungeness Crab Benny (15) with crispy breaded crab cakes.

The crab cakes are encased in a thick and crispy crust which gives it a nice textural contrast. You definitely want to go with a soft poached egg here so you can mix the runny yolk with the crab cake (otherwise, the crab cake can seem a bit dry).

On a subsequent visit, I ordered the French Toast Breakfast ($12). I was a bit concerned when the menu description said it was made from a baguette but it turned out really well. The thin slices of baguette were dipped in cinnamon and egg and accompanied with crispy strips of bacon.

The pan-fried baguette slices had a slight crispness to the exterior and was nice and soft on the inside.

Toby’s is definitely a solid brunch spot on the North Shore and it can get a bit busy during the busy brunch hour.
