Cinnamon’s Kailua (Hawaii 2018): Guava Chiffon Pancakes
During our Hawaiian vacation in May, we decided to rent a car for a couple of days and head up to the North Shore. On the first day of our road trip, we drove up to Kailua on the windward (eastern) side of Oahu and it was pouring rain so we decided to stop for breakfast at Cinnamon’s before heading to the Valley of the Temples.
We’ve previously fell in love with Cinnamon’s at the Ilikai in Waikiki on a prior trip so their location in Kailua was on my radar. This spot is in a rather nondescript building (the same building as Manoa Chocolate Hawaii which is located on the 2nd floor). Unlike their Waikiki restaurant, this location looks a bit tired and in need of a reno. That didn’t seem to distract any of the diners as there was a bit of a wait to get a table.
While they have some tables outside (in the open courtyard of the building), we were glad that we were seated inside due to the continuing rain. We ordered their signature Guava Chiffon Short Stack Pancakes ($7.95) along with a half order of the Kalua Pork Benedict ($11.25) and a side of Breakfast Links ($6.75).
Unfortunately, they didn’t have country tots for their Benedict – the ones that we had at their Ilikai location were amazing and I was really hoping to have those crispy/crunchy tater tots. Instead, I paired my Hawaiian pork and sweet potato Benedict with home fries which were not crispy at all. The saving grace was the deliciously runny yolk.
The supremely fluffy guava chiffon pancakes topped with a healthy dose of whipped cream and dark and light pink syrups was worth the trip here. A must order if you ever visit Cinnamon’s.
There are no washrooms located inside the restaurant… you have to use the one on the 2nd floor of the mini mall. While I really liked the guava chiffon pancakes, I think I prefer their Waikiki location over their Kailua store.
