Kamehameha Bakery (Hawaii 2018): Poi Haupia Donut

We first came across the legendary Poi Glazed Donut from Kamehameha Bakery in 2017. Located in the same industrial-looking mini mall as Young’s Fish Market, it wasn’t rocket science that we would come back here again. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived (just after noon), they were already sold out of their poi glazed donuts! 😦

We should have known better since we saw people buying them by the dozen last year. In any case, we wound up getting a Strawberry and an Orange Chantilly donut. The friendly person that worked behind the counter asked us if we ever tried their Poi Haupia donut (which was her favourite) and gave us one for free as consolidation for being sold out of the poi glazed.

These donuts are so good! Biting into these light, airy donuts is like biting into a piece of heaven. The poi haupia was filled with a creamy haupia (coconut cream) and I’ve got to admit that this was really good too and made me almost completely forget about the poi glazed that we missed out on.

If you want to try their poi glazed, make sure you show up early… but try their poi haupia too.
