Young’s Fish Market (Hawaii 2018): Traditional Hawaiian Food
There’s nothing like good old fashioned Hawaiian food to comfort a hungry tummy. Although we had some amazing Hawaiian food from Da Ono Hawaiian Foods a few days earlier, we were in the mood to try some more during our vacation and wound up coming to Young’s Fish Market in Kalani. This counter-service establishment is located in the same industrial-looking mini mall as Kamehameha Bakery and gets quite busy.
When we arrived around 11am, there was already a good sized lineup of customers waiting to put in their order. It seems like they do a fair amount of takeout orders which probably takes up a lot of their time.
We wound up ordering a Mini Laulau Plate with Chicken ($10) as well as a side of Beef Stew ($6) and a side of Ahi Shoyu Poke. The food here is legit and the beef stew was really good… just wished that they cut down the beef chunks into smaller pieces.
If you come here… be ready for a wait. Service is hit or miss depending on who you get (the guy that helped us got our order wrong) and things seem to move at a snail’s pace. There is seating available here but it’s not glamorous.
