Mui Garden (Richmond): Curry Beef Brisket and Baked Pork Chop on Rice
If you’ve ever been around the Victoria Drive area near East 41st Avenue, you’ve probably seen the popular HK Style Cafe known as Mui Garden. As it turns out, they also have a Richmond location (they had another location on Main Street that closed out last year).
The Minoru Blvd location is a bit hidden from the street as the entrance is on Firbridge way (1 block north of Westminster Hwy). We stopped by for lunch on the weekend and the place was fairly busy. As with the Victoria Drive location, service is curt and to the point.
Our first dish was the Baked Pork Chop with tomato sauce on rice ($12). Mui does a good job of preparing the tender bone-in pork chop.
Mui Garden is known for their curry so I ordered the Curry Beef Brisket on Rice ($10.50) which was delivered in an overflowing bowl. This isn’t a spicy curry but it is so good! The beef brisket was perfectly tender and was accompanied by a large chunk of potato. You really need to eat this with rice to sop up all of the glorious curry sauce.
After we finished, it took a bit to flag someone down for our bill (they only accept cash or debit). Nothing fancy here… just simple and comforting food.
