Eggslut – Cosmopolitan (Las Vegas 2019): The Fairfax and The Slut
Okay, so here it is… our post of Eggslut… the much ballyhooed purveyor of decadent egg-based dishes that’s graced the fickle screens of Instagram users. We originally tried to come here the prior day but we showed up a bit late and the lineup was crazy so we returned on another day to try again.
Located on the 2nd floor of The Boulevard Tower of the Cosmopolitan, we initially had a bit of trouble locating this place but you just have to look for the long lineup of people and you know you’re there. While there was still a lineup, it was marginally shorter than the day before (it took us about 30 minutes to get from the back of the lineup to the place where you put in your order). There’s no table service here… you place your order and then wait for it to come up (it was about a 10 minute wait for our food to be ready). Speaking of tables, there’s not a lot here… they have some long communal bar seating and there’s some tables across from the walkway. Fortunately, it seems a lot of people do take-out orders and the ones that do sit here to eat rotate through fairly quickly.
Since we had 30 minutes in line to wait before ordering, we had lots of time to decide. Their menu is very limited so there’s not much to choose from (I wanted to try their biscuit but apparently they were already sold out by the time we got there). Instead, we ordered The Fairfax ($9 + $3 for added turkey sausage) and the epitomously named The Slut ($11).
The Fairfax is a breakfast sandwich with soft scrambled eggs, chives, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and sriracha mayo in a brioche bun. This was pretty good but seemed to be a bit skimpy on the caramelized onions.
The Slut is a mixture of coddle egg and potato puree topped with gray salt and chives and then served with slices of baguette. Honestly, not the best thing I’ve had in my mouth. It was okay… but it just tasted like mashed potatoes to me.
Maybe I just had too high expectations coming here because I was really expecting something better (especially given the long waits). To be fair, the Fairfax sandwich is pretty good. Almost as good as the breakfast sandwiches that you can get at The Gray Olive in Burnaby (hint hint).
