Nahm Thai Bistro: Whalley Thai Food
We don’t wind up out in Surrey very often so I’m usually at a loss of where to go to grab some good grub. On a recent October weekend, we found ourselves out in the Whalley area and decided to try out Nahm Thai Bistro. As is usually the case with us, the Google Maps information told us that it should have been open but their actual opening time was a half hour later (darn you Google!). Since we didn’t know what else was around the neighbourhood, we just decided to wait until they opened.
Located at the corner of Whalley Blvd and 102 Avenue, this restaurant is actually quite bright and airy. We decided to try their Thai Spicy Wings ($10.50), Platter Starter ($16.50), and Green Curry Chicken ($14.50 + $3.50 for coconut rice).
The flavourful chicken wings were actually quite spicy and slathered with some chili garlic sauce that lingered in our mouths.
The Platter Starter had a nice collection of their appetizers and included crispy spring rolls, shrimp in blankets, deep-fried wontons, and fish cakes. The deep-fried wontons resembled the description of the golden bags and had a large filling.
They asked how spicy we wanted our curry and we opted for a medium-level spice which turned out nicely. Although I thought the curry sauce was a bit on the liquidy side, the dish was quite pleasant.
Overall, the food was quite good and I was surprised that it wasn’t busier here.
