Win Win Chick-N (Steveston): Filipino-Style Macaroni
Win Win Chick-N has been in Steveston for a couple of years now and have become so popular that they opened a location in Vancouver. Their Steveston shop is literally a hole-in-the-wall and we stopped by in late July. I’ve heard that it can get really busy here but we were fortunate that we showed up during a slow time (even then they said our chicken sandwich would take 15 mins).
They had a special going on where their Win Win Crispy Chicken Sandwich was on sale for 1/2 off ($6 sale price). I’m always on for a good sale but I’ve got to say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the chicken sandwich given how much everyone was promoting it on social media (which is why I don’t always get too excited when influencers are really gung ho about something). That’s not to say it was a bad chicken sandwich… it just didn’t speak to me very much and I was disappointed by the lack of “crispiness” to the chicken given the name. Definitely wouldn’t have been worth the regular price.
Now, we also ordered an 8-piece “Delicious Fried Chicken” ($19.98) made up of legs and thighs and added a large Filipino-Style Macaroni ($5.50), and Gravy ($2). The bone-in pieces of fried chicken were better than the sandwich and had some good flavour to it. But the real winner was the macaroni! It was both sweet and savory with slices of wieners and a ketchup-like sauce (perhaps banana ketchup?). If there’s one thing that you get here… make sure it’s the macaroni.
