Bánh Mì Très Bon: Modern Vietnamese Cafe

Bánh Mì Très Bon has been on my radar for quite some time… not just for their banh mi either. We visited in early December (Covid safety protocols were in effect) and the pretty interior is a stark contrast to hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese places.

Pork Spring Rolls ($8) are made freshly in-house and have a super crispy texture from the rice wrapper. This was a perfectly executed spring roll.

We couldn’t visit without trying a banh mi so we ordered their Bánh Mì Jambon ($10) which is their house special braised pork belly with Vietnamese ham and pate. It’s a bit different in terms of flavours from other banh mi but I liked it. The bread still had a nice light crusty bite to it and the filling was punctuated with jalapeno slices.

Next up was the Shrimp & Pork Tapioca Dumplings ($11). I’ve had these before at Pho Nam before but the ones here have a slightly thicker skin. These chewy dumplings are filled with shrimp and pork and served with fish sauce and topped with green onions and crispy shallots. The texture is definitely something that you’ll either love or hate. The dumplings are soft, smooth, and plump with plenty of filling but it can be quite difficult to chew through.

Last up was the Butter Garlic Chicken Wings ($10). They were a bit on the small side but were pretty good.

Before we left, we picked up a Large Christmas Pastry Box Set ($32) which includes: Assorted Macarons, Assorted Dacquoise, Christmas Tea, Chocolate Shortbread, Mexican Wedding Cookies, Raspberry Linzer Wreaths, Gingerbread Biscotti, Almond Shortbread, Vanilla Sable, & Fruited Coconut Macarons.
