Tin Tin Seafood Harbour: Busy Dim Sum Location in Richmond

Tin Tin Seafood Harbour is a popular dim sum restaurant that we’ve been meaning to try for a long time (but the large early morning crowds have always detracted us in the past). We finally managed to pay them a visit in late June.

De Dutch Pannekoek House (New West): Go for the Pancakes

De Dutch Pannekoek House has been a staple in the Columbia Square complex in New West for a number of years but I never found a reason to drop by here until recently, when I discovered my planned destination was closed (that actually happens to me more frequently than I care for).

Hong Kong No 1 Chinese Restaurant: Hot Pot Combo

Located in a strip mall on Kingsway, Hong Kong No 1 Chinese Restaurant wasn’t in our initial plans for dinner in early August. Instead, we had planned to go to a nearby restaurant but were turned away because they were all booked up. I recall visiting the former occupant of this particular location (Wei Dao Cafe, I believe) a few years ago and not much has been done to the interior decor. Although something that I did notice right away was their use of a whole menagerie of different chairs for their large tables.

Marble Slab Creamery (Market Crossing): National Ice Cream Sandwich Day

When you’re in peak summer mode, you really don’t need a reason to enjoy some cold and delicious ice cream. Still, it feels a little less guilty when there’s a good excuse… and what could be a better excuse than it being “National Ice Cream Sandwich Day”?

The Taco Factory: Tacos in New Westminster

Tuesdays are meant for tacos! Well, pretty much any day is meant for tacos. The Taco Factory is a newish spot in New Westminster where you can grab some aforementioned tacos (in addition to other Mexican fare such as tortas, burritos, and tostadas).

Columbia Street Sandwich Company: Marble Rye

Looking for new eats is always a bit of a challenge for me but I came across the appropriately named Columbia Street Sandwich Company in mid-July. This is a busy little sandwich shop located on Columbia Street in New Westminster with plenty of local patrons from nearby businesses.

Amaranthus: Vegetarian at the Quay

Recently, a new plant-focused restaurant opened up in the River Market area at the New West Quay, taking over the former location of Freebird Chicken. Helmed by the team that opened up El Santo in New West, this restaurant strives to provide vegetable-based cuisine that’s more than just your ordinary salad.

Tai Tung Chinese Seafood Restaurant: Baked BBQ Pork Buns for Dim Sum

Tai Tung is a Cantonese-style restaurant located in the Marpole area of Vancouver that we visited in late February. The thing that struck us the most about our visit was how quiet it was for a Saturday morning. Usually, that’s a bad sign since most of the good dim sum places are really busy on the weekends. Perhaps we were just here really early?

Seto Japanese Restaurant: Solid but Expensive

Seto Japanese Restaurant is located in Richmond and serves up some pretty solid Japanese fare. We visited here in early February for lunch and had a bit of difficulty deciding what to order because they had a regular menu, a lunch menu, and then various specials plastered on walls (unfortunately, it was a bit difficult to read those items on the wall).

Sushi Mura (River District): Slow Service and Mediocre Food

The amount of development that’s going on in southeast Vancouver is crazy. Marketed now as “River District” due to the close proximity to the Fraser River, there’s been a big influx in the number of condos recently and they’ve just started to add some of the much needed services such as eateries. Sushi Mura is one of the new restaurants that have opened up (near the Save On Foods).

Wild Thyme: Tasty Lebanese Food

It’s been literally years since I first visited Wild Thyme. I recall it was just after they opened and it was a small little hole-in-the-wall joint which served up some classic Lebanese cuisine. Since that time, they’ve expanded and now have a more spacious dining area next door. They don’t have air conditioning but they do open the large windows in the summer.

Sandy La Chinese Restaurant: Home-Style Cooking

Sandy La is one of the many nondescript Chinese restaurants located in Vancouver… in this particular case, serving the Kensington area around Victoria Drive. The reason why we came to visit this restaurant was because they listed an online special where you order 3 dishes and you get a free order of clams in black bean sauce. We were sad when we arrived at the restaurant and saw that they changed their menu to offer Hainan chicken instead of clams (and the price had gone up).
