The Richmond Night Market (not to be confused with the International Summer Night Market that is also in Richmond) runs from 7pm to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and 6pm to 11pm on Sundays and holidays near the River Rock Casino and the Bridgeport Skytrain station. We’ve been going to the PNE every year for as long as I can remember but I’m starting to think that this might be the last year. Things have changed so much since I was a kid – or is it I’ve changed so much since I was a kid?
One of our favourite reasons for coming to the PNE was always the SuperDogs show but it hasn’t been the same since Herb Williams retired. That coupled with the time change this year to a 1:30pm showing made this year the first one where we missed the SuperDog show. Read the rest of this entry

We’ve been going to the Pacific National Exhibition every year since we were kids. Some things have changed over the years (I still miss the BC Pavilion with the Challenger Relief Map) but one thing that hasn’t changed is that the PNE is a great place to go to get yummy fair food. The Powell Street Festival is celebrating it’s 35th year this weekend at Oppenheimer Park and celebrates the Japanese Canadian arts, culture, heritage, and more importantly… has a number of great food stands.
There are three things that we usually go for when we hit the Powell Street Festival: takoyaki, sushi cones, and sweet corn on the cob. Unfortunately, this year has been a bit of a let down… the takoyaki has been replaced by Osaka balls and there were no sushi cones. Read the rest of this entry
