Old Spaghetti Factory (New Westminster): Not Much Changes Over Time

Over the years, I’ve spent more than my fair share at The Old Spaghetti Factory. And it’s not difficult to see why this place has remained popular by many patrons over the year. Their all-included menu is tempting with a price that includes appetizer and dessert along with your meal. The main problem that I have with this chain is the way it’s gone downhill over the years.

Black Rook Bakehouse: Chester’s Cheesecake

It’s been a number of years since we last visited Black Rook Bakehouse. Located on East Hastings Street in Vancouver, I’ve always been impressed with their savory pies and sweet cakes.

Yauti Jr. Food Stall (New Westminster): Congee and Chinese Donuts

A few months ago, a new congee spot opened up in the former location of Young’s Cafe on 12th Street in New West. It looks like they’ve done a bit of renos inside to clean things up but the interior is quite stark and utilitarian.

Kozak Ukrainian Eatery: Chocolate Babka FTW

I was driving around New Westminster one gloomy autumn day when I glanced up and saw the sign for Kozak Ukrainian Eatery. Immediately, I thought about cabbage rolls and pierogies and how I haven’t had any recently.

Bruncheria Cafe: Mixed Feelings

A little while ago, I heard about a newish restaurant in New Westminster called Bruncheria. A whole restaurant dedicated to brunch? I know, I know, it’s getting a lot more common around town… but I was still intrigued. Who wants to wait until the weekend until you can enjoy some great brunch grub?

White Lotus Cafe: Busy Hidden Gem

Okay, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you probably know that I’m not really inclined to wait in long lines for restaurants. I usually pre-plan and look up when places are busy to avoid those hours. Unfortunately, Google’s not always that accurate (I probably shouldn’t say that out loud… I can hear the black helicopters hovering nearby as I type this).

Shiok Singaporean Cuisine: Beef Rendang and Roti Prata

Shiok is a newish Singaporean restaurant that opened up on Kingsway in mid-2019. I dropped by for some takeout in early October. The food’s pretty good so I might wind up coming back to try their dine-in service.

The Boss Restaurant: Somewhat Sad HK Style Cafe

The Boss Restaurant, located in Metropolis, has been around for a number of years and is still quite busy serving up popular HK-style cafe items. Recently, they underwent a renovation which made things a bit brighter with more glass so we decided to pop in for a visit.

Nahm Thai Bistro: Whalley Thai Food

We don’t wind up out in Surrey very often so I’m usually at a loss of where to go to grab some good grub. On a recent October weekend, we found ourselves out in the Whalley area and decided to try out Nahm Thai Bistro. As is usually the case with us, the Google Maps information told us that it should have been open but their actual opening time was a half hour later (darn you Google!). Since we didn’t know what else was around the neighbourhood, we just decided to wait until they opened.

Hong Mao Seafood Restaurant: Loud Din Dim Sum

Hong Mao is a Chinese restaurant located next to the Yaohan Centre on No. 3 Road in Richmond. They have a rather strange interior with an unexpectedly huge waiting area in the front, and 2 different sections of the restaurant that have varying ceiling heights. I imagine the somewhat cavernous section is the reason why this restaurant is so loud. I mean, even for a typical Chinese restaurant, this place seemed loud!

Mr. Greek Donair Shop: Donairs, Donairs, Donairs

Back in August, I came across Mr. Greek Donair Shop, located next to the Save on Foods on the upper level of Highgate Mall. Unless you frequent this area, it’s easy to miss because you can’t see it from the street level.

Co Chau Vietnamese Restaurant: Modern Vietnamese Dishes

It used to be that you couldn’t find a good Vietnamese place in New Westminster but this seems to have changed. Recently, I noticed a new Vietnamese restaurant take up in the former digs of Pho Chung Nam (not sure if it’s different owners but I know that a new Pho Nam opened up in a different part of New West earlier this year).
