AJ’s Brooklyn Pizza Joint: Brooklyn-Style Pizza

AJ’s is a popular pizza joint on Broadway known for their thin Brooklyn-style pizzas (although they also have thick crust Detroit-style pizzas as well). I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while and finally managed to visit in late October.

Slice of Chicago: The Chicagoan

I’ve never been to Chicago before but I’ve often wanted to try a Chicago-style pizza. Known for their deep crust and ample amount of filling and sauce, it smacks in the face of all of the thin-crust pizzas that are readily available in the Vancouver area. And with Covid still going strong, there’s really no better time to stuff your face with a ton of carbs.

Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria: Pizza on the Drive

Anyone remember back in the day when pizzas were called “pizza pies”? I mean, there’s that old Dean Martin song, That’s Amore… “When a moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that’s amore.” In any case, we were hankering for a nice pizza one weekend but we couldn’t decide where to get it from. We were looking for an actual sit-down restaurant where you could not only get a pizza but you could also get some pasta and other stuff… and I guess we’re a bit picky with our pizzas.

Hometown Pizza: Factory Special

Many, many years ago, there was a pizza joint located in Champlain Heights called Hometown Pizza that we’d often grab takeout from. The mom and pop shop left the area and we eventually forgot all about them. Recently, we noticed a Hometown Pizza that was located on 57th Ave and Knight Street so we decided to drop by and see if it was in fact the same place.

Pizza Hut (Kingsway and Gilley) – Crazy Cheese Crust

Does anyone remember those Pizza Hut frisbees that they used to give away back in the 70’s? That was back when most of the Pizza Hut locations were dine-in restaurants with the distinctive “hut-like” roof.

Bella Pizza (Burnaby)

A number of years ago, Bella Pizza was our go-to place for pizza but it’s been a long time since we’ve ordered from here.  The thing that always had us coming back was the fresh toppings.  I think I even remember doing a marketing project on pizza places back in school and Bella was the clear winner. Boston Pizza (Byrne Creek) – Meatball Grinder

Tucked in the corner of the shopping complex at Marine Drive and Byrne Road is an outpost of Boston Pizza.  I’m not sure why they thought this would be a good location since it seems to be very isolated from the rest of the shops but we don’t like crowds too much so it works out perfectly for us.
