Steve’s Poké Bar (SFU): Build Your Own Bowls

As someone who’s always enjoyed the fresh and tasty poke that we’ve had in Hawaii, we were glad when the poke craze started to take root in Vancouver a couple of years ago. Steve’s Poké Bar, located in the SFU campus on top of Burnaby Mountain was one of the first dedicated poke places to open up in the area but it wasn’t until recently that we’ve tried them out.

The Poke Guy: Best Poke in Vancouver

2016 seemed to be the year that poke took a real foothold in Vancouver with countless poke shops popping up all over the place. The problem, however, is that most of the places calling themselves “poke” shops really weren’t staying true to the original poke from Hawaii.

Ono Seafood (Hawaii 2016) – Poke Poke Poke

Poke is one of the things that I crave when I think back to our trip to Hawaii. Sure, Vancouver has lots of great seafood restaurants and really fresh fish but very few Vancouver restaurants serve up a poke that can compare with the ones in Hawaii.

Eggs ‘n Things – Saratoga (Waikiki 2015)

Eggs ‘n Things has a very popular location on Kalakaua Avenue right across from Waikiki Beach. But if you don’t mind a little walk, you can hit up their flagship location on Saratoga Road. They’ve got a little gift shop on the main floor where you can pick up various Eggs ‘n Things tchotchkes.
