Golden Paramount Seafood Restaurant: Dim Sum
Golden Paramount Seafood Restaurant (I know, the name sounds just like all of the other Chinese restaurants) recently moved from a small strip mall into a brick building next door. The layout and the building itself is a bit confusing as we had a bit of trouble finding the place after parking in the attached parking structure.

Dragon View Chinese Cuisine: Dim Sum
Dragon View Chinese Cuisine is located on the second floor of Continental Shopping Centre in Richmond and has a pleasant looking interior with interesting chandeliers that, to me, resembled the round leaves of a money tree (lunaria annua). There’s also a large floral mural on one wall made up of tiny metallic and glass tiles.

Mui Garden (Richmond): Curry Beef Brisket and Baked Pork Chop on Rice
If you’ve ever been around the Victoria Drive area near East 41st Avenue, you’ve probably seen the popular HK Style Cafe known as Mui Garden. As it turns out, they also have a Richmond location (they had another location on Main Street that closed out last year).

White Spot (Bridgeport): Dry and Overcooked Eggs
As someone who was born in Vancouver, I have fond memories of White Spot… especially their pirate paks. As I got older, I started to appreciate their legendary burgers and other casual dishes like chicken pot pie and fish and chips. However, over the last 15 years or so, I’ve noticed a decline in their food. Nothing too serious but noticeable enough that I often lament about how their coleslaw used to taste better or their hamburgers used to be juicier.

L’otus Cake Boutique: Earl Grey and Matcha Mille Crêpes
Nothing spurs the FOMO in people like seeing countless pictures of beautifully crafted desserts fill their social media feeds. Sun Sui Wah (Richmond): Dim Sum
Due to the large number of dim sum restaurants in the area, it’s not unusual for us to go for years before returning to a restaurant that we’ve previously tried before… even one that we’ve quite enjoyed. Sun Sui Wah used to be one of the more popular dim sum restaurants in Vancouver/Richmond (they have locations in both cities) but I had heard that the food quality had declined recently.

Deer Garden Signatures – Malay Laksa Soup
Deer Garden Signatures is a fairly popular chain restaurant. Never having been to the location at Venezia Place before, I had a difficult time actually finding it because it’s located on the second floor of this complex.

Kongee Dinesty – Congee Breakfast Set
For some reason or another, I always seem to have troubles when trying to check out restaurants… from lost reservations and power failures to my personal favourite… restaurants being closed when they should be open. Such was the case when I had tried to visit Lido Restaurant in Richmond. Since they were closed and it was still early in the morning, I wound up dropping by Kongee Dinesty since it was relatively nearby.

Top Shanghai Cuisine – Worst. Service. Ever.
Ok, the thing that you’ve got to know about most Chinese restaurants is that you can’t expect much in terms of service. So when you run into a restaurant which makes all of the other Chinese restaurants look like 5-star contenders, that’s saying a lot.

Chef Tony – Line Up for Dim Sum
Generally speaking, we’re not the kind of people that line up for restaurants anymore… if we do, it better be darn good. And if you see us lining up for dim sum, it probably means we woke up late (after all, there are tons of places to have dim sum and we prefer eating early to avoid the rush).
