PNE 2014 – Poutine and Ribs

It’s August which means it’s time for the PNE. With the free admission day set for tomorrow (free gate admission on Tuesday, August 19th from 11am to 1pm), I figured this post would be timely. 

Richmond Night Market 2013

The Richmond Night Market (not to be confused with the International Summer Night Market that is also in Richmond) runs from 7pm to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and 6pm to 11pm on Sundays and holidays near the River Rock Casino and the Bridgeport Skytrain station.  This year, as the picture below alludes, their theme is “Magical Duck Island”.

PNE 2013 – Reel (Deep Fried) Mac and Cheese

We’ve been going to the PNE for years… it’s one of the constants in Vancouver in late August.  Over the years, it seemed like things had progressively gotten worse… almost to a point where we were considering not going this year. 

Powell Street Festival – 2013

August 3rd and August 4th is the 37th annual Powell Street Festival this year at Oppenheimer Park which celebrates Japanese Canadian heritage.

PNE 2012 Food Fest – End of an Era?

We’ve been going to the PNE every year for as long as I can remember but I’m starting to think that this might be the last year.  Things have changed so much since I was a kid – or is it I’ve changed so much since I was a kid?

One of our favourite reasons for coming to the PNE was always the SuperDogs show but it hasn’t been the same since Herb Williams retired.  That coupled with the time change this year to a 1:30pm showing made this year the first one where we missed the SuperDog show.

Powell Street Festival 2012

Quick!  The Powell Street Festival is only open for one more day!  After Sunday, you’ll have to wait another year before enjoying all of the wonderful food items at the various booths.

PNE 2011 – Fair Food

We’ve been going to the Pacific National Exhibition every year since we were kids.  Some things have changed over the years (I still miss the BC Pavilion with the Challenger Relief Map) but one thing that hasn’t changed is that the PNE is a great place to go to get yummy fair food.
