Hon’s Wun-Tun House (New West): Old School Asian Comfort Food

Things don’t get any more old school than Hon’s. There’s a good reason why they’ve been in business over 30 years… if you’re looking for Chinese comfort food, they have things nailed down pat.

Marutama Ra-men (Metrotown): Super Duper Busy

If you’re a ramen lover in Vancouver, you’ve probably heard of Marutama Ra-men. This iconic chain founded in Japan back in 2001 has spread across the globe and is known for their signature creamy chicken broth with aosa seaweed. Recently, they opened up a new location near Metrotown (in the former Ramen Raijin spot on Kingsway) and I visited during their soft opening.

Sushi Mura (River District): Slow Service and Mediocre Food

The amount of development that’s going on in southeast Vancouver is crazy. Marketed now as “River District” due to the close proximity to the Fraser River, there’s been a big influx in the number of condos recently and they’ve just started to add some of the much needed services such as eateries. Sushi Mura is one of the new restaurants that have opened up (near the Save On Foods).

Sushico Japanese Restaurant: Friendly Service and Quality Food in Langley

I don’t find myself out in Langley very often… and don’t even get me started on the City of Langley vs the Township of Langley. But we found ourselves in the area one weekend while shopping at one of the large garden centres and we needed to grab a bite to eat.

Kushi Mura Izakaya: Solid Japanese Snacking Options

Recently, Kushi Mura Izakaya opened up on the main floor of the Shops at New West (ie. New West Skytrain Station) at the western end closest to Quayside drive. Eating House 1849 (Hawaii 2018): Crab Cakes and Paella

One of the many new restaurants that opened up in the new International Marketplace in Waikiki is Eating House 1849. Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen: Another Ramen Shop in Town

It looks like the latest food craze to hit the fickle Vancouver restaurant scene is ramen. It seems like there’s a new ramen joint opening up every week. Recently, Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen opened up on Kingsway, across from Metrotown (and about a block away from Yaguchiya Ramen.

Yaguchiya Ramen: Iekei Ramen

Last year, a new ramen shop opened up in the former location of Seoul Cafe on Kingsway, across from Metropolis at Metrotown. I know that’s not too unusual since 3-4 new ramen shops opened up in this area around the same time, but in this case, I’m referring to Yaguchiya Ramen which is a small chain of iekie-style (house-type) ramen originating in Yokohama, Japan.
