FusionCore Japanese Eatery: Solid Take-Out Only Spot

Recently, I noticed a Japanese place show up on my radar that’s located in a mini mall along the busy Burnaby/New Westminster border. From past experience, most of these places are just your run-of-the-mill quick sushi places that are nothing to write home about. So I was actually pleasantly surprised by the variety of Japanese fare that FusionCore serves up.

Sushi Yoi: Busy Little Sushi Place

Sushi Yoi is a busy little Japanese restaurant located on Rosser Street in Burnaby, right next to the large grove of Japanese cherry blossom trees (bet this place is a great place to have lunch during the spring).

Sushi Gen Restaurant: Hidden Sushi Place in Burnaby

Sushi Gen is a bit of a hidden sushi restaurant as it’s tucked in a mini mall behind Lougheed Town Centre, right next to the Red Robin. This is actually the same mini mall that Green Leaf Cafe recently opened up in (which is how I found Sushi Gen).

Restaurant Yugo: Moderately Expensive Japanese Food on Main

After an aborted attempt to visit another restaurant, I eventually wound up at Restaurant Yugo. It wasn’t a total loss because this place has been on my radar for a while now. Located on Main Street between East 26th and East 27th, this spacious restaurant serves up some seriously good (albeit somewhat expensive) Japanese items.

Green Leaf Cafe: Welcome Addition to Burnaby

If you’re a fan of aburi oshi sushi (flame-seared and box-pressed) in Vancouver, you’ve probably heard of Green Leaf Sushi, a popular location in the trendy Kitsilano area. Earlier in May, they opened up a second location… this time in Burnaby, behind Lougheed Town Centre at the corner of Cameron St and Erickson Dr.

Aburi King: Aburi Sushi

Green Leaf Sushi: Aburi Salmon Oshi Sushi

Green Leaf Sushi has been on my must visit list for quite some time after seeing countless pics of their aburi oshi sushi. We finally found ourselves in the area after first hitting the UBC Botanical Garden Tree Walk and came for a late lunch. While the restaurant was still fairly busy, we did manage to find a table right away.

Victoria Sushi: Aburi Everything

Sushi Well (New West) – Pink Sushi Rice

Sushi Well is the new name for Okonomi Sushi. I had previously visited their location on 6th Street in New Westminster, but I think that particular outlet has sinced closed. When I visited their Columbia & 4th Street location in early January (entrance is on 4th St), they still had their old name on the outside of the restaurant.

Osaka Sushi – North Burnaby

So there I was… sitting in front of my laptop… staring at a picture of some Japanese food… thinking to myself, “where the heck did I take this picture?” Guess that’s what happens when you eat out a lot.

Minami – Revisit

It’s difficult to believe that our last visit to Minami was well over a year ago. On our recent dinner visit, we didn’t realize that it was the same night as the “CandyTown” winter festival in Yaletown… the entire Mainland street was packed with revelers and costumed-gingerbread people.

Kishimoto Japanese Kitchen and Sushi Bar – Oshi Sushi and Yuzu Ice Cream

When I think about “The Drive”, I immediately think of Italian food. I guess that’s because growing up in the neighbourhood, you couldn’t walk a block down Commercial Drive without smelling the aroma of pizza or seeing the green, white, and red flag of Italy proudly waving from the stores.
