Ho Yuen Kee: Lobster Sticky Rice
After trying the Lobster Sticky Rice at Flamingo House, we were interested to see how this dish fared at other restaurants. I’ve seen plenty of pictures of the Lobster Sticky Rice at Ho Yuen Kee on Fraser Street on social media so I figured this would be a good place to try out.

Flamingo House – New Digs on Marine Drive
Back at the end of 2015, Flamingo closed their doors on their popular Cambie Street location. As with so many places on the Cambie corridor, rising land values had proved too tempting and the owner had sold the property. This left us with a few months of withdrawal from Flamingo House until their new location on Marine Drive was ready.

Prince Chinese Seafood – Expensive but Tasty
Prince Chinese Seafood is an unassuming looking restaurant from the outside; located in a mini mall on the corner of Renfrew and Grandview Hwy. However, once you walk inside, you can clearly see that this restaurant is upper scale with prices to match. The decor is filled with neutral beige and browns punctuated with purple cloth napkins. Phekda Chinese Restaurant – Spot Prawns 2013
Phekda Chinese Restaurant is located along the busy 2500-block of Kingsway. I remember many moon ago having to take piano lessons in a now defunct music store on this block. Honestly, the only thing I truly remember about those lessons were reading Archie comics while I was waiting for my lesson to start and buying O-Pee-Chee hockey cards in a nearby grocery store afterwards.
Flamingo House Chinese Cuisine – Old School Goodness
I found this old draft post that I meant to upload last year but must have overlooked it… so when you’re reading this, please keep in mind that it was done sometime last year.
We’ve been back to Flamingo House Chinese Cuisine time and again ever since we first discovered the place because we’re always fearful that if we stop going, they may go out of business one day. There have been countless other restaurants that we’ve been to in the past that we really enjoyed but vanished after we stopped going on a regular basis. Flamingo House Chinese Cuisine
They say that if you’re good at something, you should stick with it. It seems that the people at Flamingo House really believe in that statement. Walking into this large restaurant on Cambie Street is like travelling back in time to the kinds of Chinese restaurants that were around back in the 80’s. The waiters and waitresses are all decked out in colourful pink, red, and green Chinese uniforms… Even their dim sum is brought out on traditional push carts! Read the rest of this entry
