If you’ve been around the New Westminster area for a while, you’ll know that many restaurants have taken over the spot that used to be the BC Penitentiary Guard House that closed down in 1980. The latest entry is the Royal Crown Castle Restaurant & Bar.

Match Eatery & Public House (New Westminster): Average Bar Eats

Match Eatery & Publish House is a modern gastropub located outside of Starlight Casino in New Westminster. The interior is fairly dark and industrial-looking but they do have some skylights which lets in some natural light. I was actually surprised at how large this place is and it’s filled with large, flat screen tvs. I’m sure that it must get busy here during weekends or sporting events but it was fairly quite when I came here for lunch during the weekday.

Toby’s Pub & Grill (North Van): Brunch in North Van

As the name would suggest, Toby’s Pub & Grill is a – wait for it – pub and grill joint with locations on Commercial Drive in Vancouver and Main Street in North Vancouver. In this post, I’ll be talking about the North Van location which we visited for brunch on a couple of occasions.

The Castle Neighbourhood Grill is a difficult-to-find location if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Currently nestled within a residential community, this spot previously housed the Dublin Castle Irish Sports Grill (which we were sad to see go) and, more historically, the BC Penitentiary Guard House that closed down in 1980.

Garrison Bistro is located in the appropriately named Garrison Village shopping area in Chilliwack.

River’s Reach Pub

For some reason, I’ve been hitting up the local pubs in New West lately for lunch. It has nothing to do with drinking… I’m just looking for someplace new to eat and New West seems to have quite a few pubs.

Union Jack Public House – Jack’s Signature Stuffed Yorkies

Union Jack Public House is located in the old Moonrakers Neighbourhood Pub location.  I’ve never been to Moonrakers before but it looks like they did a pretty good job on the renos… plenty of dark wooden tables and large tvs on the walls.

Wings Restaurants & Pubs (Burquitlam)

“Bur-what?” you might ask… Burquitlam is a portmanteau (think “Brangelina”) of Burnaby and Coquitlam since North Road divides the two cities.  Wings is located right on the corner of North Road and Lougheed Hwy (a very congested intersection).
