If you’ve ever seen a zombie apocalypse movie, you’ll have an inkling of what we went through one early March weekend on the North Shore. But before we get to that, let me explain why we were in North Vancouver in the first place.
So we weren’t really planning on going to Banana Leaf for Dine Out this year but we just happened to find ourselves nearby and we were getting hungry. It was fairly packed on this weeknight so we were lucky that they must hold back a couple of tables for walk-ins.
So, it’s summertime finally in Vancouver and that can only mean one thing… reruns (or in this case, revisits). We have quite a few revisit posts that we haven’t had the time to get to yet. The great thing about revisits is that there’s no pressure… you can just sit back and relax as you enjoy your food.
Our first revisit is to Tamarind Hill back in mid April. We enjoyed our last visit to Tamarind Hill so much that we wound up coming back less than a month later… and we wound up in the exact same table too. Read the rest of this entry
There’s a ton of places to find fish and chips in Steveston but what do you do if you have a hankering for something a little different? What about Malaysian food on the pier? Fortunately, the one Malaysian restaurant in Steveston happens to be right on the pier (albeit a bit hidden) located near the Hog Shack.
Is there actually any shopping to do in Aberdeen Centre that doesn’t involve food? Well, on this one weekend, we came by to pick up some cables from NCIX and bumped into our nephew and his friends so we decided to try out Tropika (located on the lower floor near Mei Jan Hong). Not too long ago, we had our first visit to Penang Delight Cafe on Rupert Street. The food was pretty good so when we found ourselves running errands in the neighbourhood recently, we wound up stopping by for another go. One of the things that we enjoy about Penang Delight is the music that they play – not your usual top 40’s stuff. It might seem a little odd to hear 70’s western music while enjoying some terrific Malaysian cuisine, but we liked it.
As I mentioned in our post for Penang Delight Cafe, it’s not always easy to find a good Malaysian restaurant in South-East Vancouver. I had read some good reviews about Malay Curry House on Kingsway so I was determined to try them out after work one day. As luck would have it, I called for take-out on a Wednesday (apparently they’re closed on Tuesdays). Read the rest of this entry
Summer barely started in Vancouver this year and now it’s almost over… what’s a person to do? Get down to a restaurant and try out their special summer menus before they disappear for the season! Read the rest of this entry
For some reason, there’s not many Malaysian restaurants in Burnaby… which is a shame because sometimes I get a craving for roti or spicy curry. I’m not surprised that I haven’t seen JB Malaysian Cuisine on Kingsway before… I had the address and I still managed to drive by twice without seeing it nestled next to the HSBC. We haven’t been back to Tropika for years… which is kind of strange because we like Malaysian food. I was wondering if it’s changed much since the last time we’ve been there so I read some reviews and I started remembering all of the little idiosyncrasies that Tropika was known for (ie. not seating your party of 6 or more if everyone wasn’t there, waiters trying to rush you through dinner, etc…). I was actually pleasantly surprised this time around. Read the rest of this entry
