Sushi Gen Restaurant: Hidden Sushi Place in Burnaby

Sushi Gen is a bit of a hidden sushi restaurant as it’s tucked in a mini mall behind Lougheed Town Centre, right next to the Red Robin. This is actually the same mini mall that Green Leaf Cafe recently opened up in (which is how I found Sushi Gen).

Best Sushi N Kitchen: Korean and Japanese Fare

You know… with a name like Best Sushi ‘N Kitchen, you know that they think pretty highly of themselves. This Korean/Japanese restaurant is located in a busy mini mall in Coquitlam (close to Hanamori Sushi).

Restaurant Yugo: Moderately Expensive Japanese Food on Main

After an aborted attempt to visit another restaurant, I eventually wound up at Restaurant Yugo. It wasn’t a total loss because this place has been on my radar for a while now. Located on Main Street between East 26th and East 27th, this spacious restaurant serves up some seriously good (albeit somewhat expensive) Japanese items.

Toku Japanese Restaurant: Unagi Don and Tempura

Toku Japanese Restaurant is located in Lansdowne Centre, directly across from Earls (on the north side of the mall). It’s a surprisingly large restaurant with high ceilings and call buttons located on the tables (similar to what you’d find at many Korean restaurants). Being the polite and reserved Canadian people that we are, we didn’t even try to use the call buttons during our meal but we didn’t have to as service was pretty good and it was easy to get the attention of the servers.

Green Leaf Cafe: Welcome Addition to Burnaby

If you’re a fan of aburi oshi sushi (flame-seared and box-pressed) in Vancouver, you’ve probably heard of Green Leaf Sushi, a popular location in the trendy Kitsilano area. Earlier in May, they opened up a second location… this time in Burnaby, behind Lougheed Town Centre at the corner of Cameron St and Erickson Dr.

Kimu Japanese Cuisine: Amazing Japanese Food

The corner of 29th and Boundary is a very busy location and I’ve driven by it on many occasions. However, I’ve never really noticed the Kimu Japanese Cuisine restaurant until recently.

Ichiro Japanese Restaurant: Solid Seafood in Steveston

It seems like I’ve been waiting to go to Ichiro Japanese Restaurant in Steveston for ages but, in the past, I’ve always wound up filling up on fish and chips instead. Well, in March this year, we decided to change things up a bit. We still got fish and chips from Pajos but we only ordered a small serving to save room for our visit to Ichiro.

Woomi Sushi: Unremarkable Eats

Okay, I’m going to do my best to give this place a fair review. After all, it seems unfair to compare the sushi from a shopping mall in New Westminster with the sushi that we had in Japan. So here goes… Woomi Sushi is located inside Royal Square Mall (next to IT Char Burger). I mention IT Char mainly because it is a gem of a find inside this mall and I had hoped Woomi Sushi would provide similar unexpected results.

Tairyou Ichiba: Hits and Misses

Tairyou Ichiba is a fairly busy Japanese restaurant located on Kingsway in Burnaby. From the outside, the main identifying aspect is their large wooden door, which seems to be a hold over from the last Japanese restaurant that occupied this location (Kura Japanese). Like Kura before them, Tairyou Ichiba (Japanese for big fish market) has a fairly extensive menu to choose from.

Maguro Brothers Waikiki (Hawaii 2018): Sashimi and Poke

Maguro Brothers has a well known location in Chinatown in Honolulu but they’ve recently reopened a take-out shop in Waikiki along Nahua Street between Kuhio and Ala Wai Blvd. They only open in the evening so make sure you check out their hours before you head on over.
