Ban Chok Dee Thai Cuisine: Langley Thai Food

So we don’t find ourselves out in Langley very often. But after doing some flower shopping at a couple of nurseries in the area, we wound up at Ban Chok Dee Thai Cuisine in mid-June.

Van Thai: Fairly Solid Thai Dishes

Last year, I did a round of all of the Thai restaurants in the New Westminster area and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the shops. Earlier this year, I noticed a newish Thai spot that opened up on Carnarvon St (near the Skytrain station) called Van Thai. The interior is spacious but a bit on the dark side with minimal decor (partly due to the dark wood coloured chairs, tables, and chair railing).

Olay’s Thai Food Express (Hawaii 2018): Honolulu Farmers’ Market

The original purpose of our visit to the Honolulu Farmers’ Market (located in front of Blaisdell Concert Hall) was to get some yummy butter mochi cupcakes from Mochi Lab. However, we knew that we’d be hungry for something more substantial. Fortunately, there’s a ton of food stands here… one of which is Olay’s Thai Food Express.

Eat Me Thai: Grilled Pork Cheek Salad

Even though “Punjabi Market” is primarily located on Main Street, I’ve often associated the neighbouring area along Fraser St to be part and parcel with it. However, much like how Chinatown is no longer the sole domain of Chinese stores and restaurants, this area of south Fraser St has become more multicultural over time. Eat Me Thai is one such example and is brought to you by the team from Bangkok City Cafe on West 4th.

Sabai Thai: Thai Eats in Guildford

I’m sure there are plenty of good restaurants in Surrey… I just don’t have the need or desire to spend much time in the area. Well, we found ourselves in a 2 hour lineup for a book signing near Guildford one Saturday and decided to get some food in the area afterwards. That’s how we ended up at Sabai Thai.

Sen Pad Thai: Holy Basil Stirfry

Sen Pad Thai is yet another Thai-inspired street food eatery from Angus An to go along with his other sister restaurants (Longtail Kitchen, Freebird Chicken, etc…). This shop is actually located in the Net Loft building at Granville Island (as opposed to the food court located in the market).

Freebird Chicken Shack: Chicken Cracklin’

Longtail Kitchen: Lunch Specials

For those of you who haven’t been to the River Market in New West (formerly known as New West Quay), you might be surprised at the quality of restaurants located in this place. In addition to Freebird Chicken Shack, Chef Angus An has a Thai restaurant at River Market that specializes in Thai street food.

Koh Thai: Solid Sapperton Thai

On the corner of Columbia and Braid in New Westminster, an unassuming restaurant serves up Thai dishes to the locals in the Sapperton neighbourhood. Formerly known as Go Thai, the restaurant has changed owners as well as names (now known as the phonetically similar Koh Thai).

Thai Box 2Go: Not Just Take-Out

While I’ve been to Thai Box 2Go in the past, I can’t really recall why I haven’t been back here recently. Contrary to what you might think based on their name, this Thai eatery located on Sixth Street in New Westminster, has a fairly comfortable dine-in seating area.

Thai New West: Drunken Noodles

Located in the heart of the Sapperton district of New Westminster, Thai New West is an appropriately named Thai restaurant that we’ve visited in the past. I’m not sure what it is, but I seem to have been doing a lot of repeat Thai visits to the New West area over the last little while.
