Milestones Grill and Bar (Yaletown) – Top Chef Canada

Mondays at Milestones means Girls Night Out… 4 bellinis & 4 appetizers for $40 – but it’s not just a time for a bunch of gals to get together, eat some food, and trash on their ex’s.  Men are welcome too and it’s a perfect way of trying out a bunch of different appetizers and complaining about the difficult work day we just had.We had previously blogged about some of the appetizers during Girls Night Out – click on the link to read more:  Milestones (Yaletown)

Milestones’ mojitos are simple and very refreshing if you’re looking for an alternative to their signature bellini.

Milestones’s seasonal inspirations is based on dishes from Top Chef Canada.  The Watermelon and Roasted Beet Salad is awesome!  The crisp watermelon triangles is very light and refreshing and melds well with the golden beets and creamy goat cheese.

The tenderloin in the Steak & Frites was one of the best I’ve had and was smothered with a mushroom, gorgonzola and bacon sauce.  The frites, on the other hand, wasn’t much to write home about.  This would have been a much better dish if it had some roasted veggies or mashed potatoes.

I was really disappointed with the Strawberry Shortcake with Vanilla Whipped Cream.  The menu said it was inspired by a Top Chef Canada winning dish but I couldn’t bring myself to finish this dessert (the horrors!).  The shortcake was dry and the sauce was just off.  I think the problem was with the lemon curds.  I think they may have scrapped off too much of the pith which caused the dish to be a little bitter.

Definately get the watermelon salad if you go but stay clear of the strawberry shortcake.
