Blue Canoe Waterfront: Raw and Fried Oysters
Usually, Pajo’s is our place to go when we head over to Steveston. However, when we’re looking for something other than fish & chips, we like to try some of the other restaurants along the Bayview Pier.
Blue Canoe Waterfront has a nice view of the pier from their patio and we had a craving for oysters so we decided to try their Panko Crusted Fried Fanny Bay Oysters ($16.95) as well as some fresh oysters on the half shell ($16.95 for 6).
The oysters included Kusshi and Chefs Creek (the larger of the two) and were accompanied by horseradish and a tart mignonette. Both of these oyster types are on the small side but they were quite fresh. My only complaint was that the horseradish lacked any punch to it.
The larger Fanny Bay oysters are perfect for deep-frying and had a pleasing crunch from the panko coating. The three deep-fried oysters came with a broccoli slaw and fermented garlic aioli sauce.
Overall, the oysters here were pretty good. This place might be worth a revisit.
