Jackson’s Meat & Deli

Jackson’s Meat & Deli is self-described as the oldest meat market in Vancouver, dating back to 1911. Yet walking inside their spiffy West 4th location, you’d hardly guess it.

They have a nice selection of deli sandwiches available and we decided on the Italian with hot capicollo, salami, provolone, roasted red pepper, and pesto mayo. It’s best to eat this sandwich grilled as that really brings out the flavours of the meat.

While I wasn’t exactly a fan of the bun they used, the sandwich was still pretty good.

  1. you looking for a very good italian sandwich? and not over priced or with crappy deli meats (such as Subway..)? just go to any italian Deli….ask them to make you a panino….or just ask for a deli sandwich to go. Can be anywhere from $4.50 to $7….but it will be good quality italian meats and cheeses, lettuce, mayo, mustard…in a real italian bun. Try these places : Renzullo’s on Nanaimo near kitchener st (vanc), Bosa delis…(all vancouver…new one on Commercial drive), or La Grotta on commercial next to Fratelli’s bakery!!, Cioffi’s on Hastings in burnaby..there are others that but these are the ones i grew up with and still visit to this day. Renzullo’s on Nanaimo is a great deli, it has free easy street parking and the youngish owners are very nice people, very nice italian deli with imported foods. (and no i dont work at any of these deli’s…just passing along a nice italian deli experience to you and your readers.

    • Been to La Grotta before but not the other places. Used to buy those tiny Italian candies that restaurants give out. Yes, good sandwiches. I also like those tiny grocery stores with the deli in the back. I can’t stay away from a good mortadella sandwich
