Big Island Candies (Hawaii 2016) – Macadamia Nut Milk Chocolate Trio

If you’ve even been to Waikiki, you’ve probably seen how Honolulu Cookie Company has grown rapidly. In fact, you probably have family or friends who have brought back their pineapple-shaped shortbread cookies after vacationing in Hawaii. While HCC has grown rapidly since 1998, there’s another purveyor of shortbread cookies in Hawaii that’s been around since 1977. Starting in the Hilo industrial district of the Big Island, Big Island Candies is known both for their signature shortbread cookies as well as their chocolate products.

You can find Big Island Cookies now in the Ala Moana Center. Unlike HCC, Big Island Candies has a larger variety of products including brownies, cookies, biscotti, and chocolates.

It was their chocolates that really stood out for me. We picked up a Hawaiian Macadamia Nut Milk Chocolate Trio consisting of chocolate macadamia nut crunch (with crisp rice kernels that “pop” when you bite into them), chocolate macadamia nut rocky road (with soft puffs of marshmallow throughout), and chocolate macadamia nut crunchies (with crunchy potato chips mixed in).

These chocolate squares are thick, more so than a regular chocolate bar.

Wishing that we picked up more while we were there.
