Main Island Cafe – Baked Seafood on Rice
Main Island Cafe is a newish HK-style cafe that’s occupying the former location of Curry King Cafe. I don’t think they did much work on this place as the interior still feels tired and dated.
It’s really not much to look at on the inside and is very utilitarian. They claim to be known for their fish soup and a lot of other tables seemed to be ordering it.
Instead, I decided to try their House Special Baked Seafood on Rice combo ($10.75 plus $1.50 for the passion fruit coke). Interestingly, my dish also came with baked pork chop with tomato sauce in addition to the seafood rice. The rice was covered with a creamy, yet flavourless, sauce and had onions, egg, mushrooms, crab sticks, shrimp, fish, squid, and tiny scallops.
Truthfully, the seafood rice was just passable… I’ve had better at other HK-style cafes. Maybe I should have tried their fish soup?
