Broken Rice – Curried Chicken Ballotine
I’ve already had a few posts on Broken Rice located in North Burnaby so I’ll just keep this short and sweet.
Phnom Penh Roll | Bò Bía ($6.50) with Chinese sausage, egg, carrot, jicama, basil, lettuce, and peanuts wrapped in rice paper and served with peanut sauce. The rolls are elegantly prepared (with a spoon to use with the peanut sauce) and had a slightly salty bite from the Chinese sausage.
Lemongrass Beef Vermicelli | Bún Bò Xào ($10.95) with lemongrass marinated beef, wok-tossed with onions and bean sprouts, and topped with roasted peanuts and cripsy onions. Served on a bed of vermicelli noodles with greens, herbs, pickled vegetables and nước chắm dipping sauce.
Curried Chicken Ballotine | Cà Ri Gà ($15.95) was soooooo good! They stuff the tender chicken meat (thigh I think) with minced curried chicken and serve it with onions, taro chunks, panko-covered broken rice balls, lotus root chips, yam threads, and chili oil in a curry sauce with a side of steamed rice. I really enjoyed how all of the textures mixed with each other in this dish, let alone the tender chicken pieces.
