S&W Pepper House: Stir-Fried Lamb with Cumin

There are few dishes that can make me salivate as much as stir-fried lamb with cumin. Even before reaching the table, the pungent aroma of cumin wakes my senses to the adventure that is about to begin.

S&W Pepper House is, unfortunately, located in Crystal Mall (aka the place with the circular parking lot from hell). If it wasn’t for this fact, I’d probably be eating here a lot more often.

I wound up coming here for an early dinner back in March and the place was practically empty. In addition to the Stir-Fried Lamb with Cumin ($15.95), I also ordered the Guizhou Fried Rice ($11.95) and Fried Buns ($2.95).

I don’t order fried buns very often but I do have fond memories of eating these as a kid. Layers and layers of pillowy-soft bun all encased in a crisp skin and served with condensed milk.

The Guizhou Fried Rice was very fluffy and had a spicy and sour hit from the preserved veggies.

But the main event was the stir-fried lamb with cumin. While not being overpoweringly spicy, it still provided a good numbing tingle to my tongue as I continued to eat the thinly sliced lamb.

On a subsequent visit about 4 months later, we tried a few other dishes… but we had to make sure we ordered the Deep Fried Buns again.

This time we ordered the Sweet and Sour Rock Cod ($19.95) which is super crispy. They preslice the fish before they fry it which means you get more surface area that turns out crispy.

To texturally offset the fried fish, we also ordered the Eggplant with Minced Pork in Garlic Sauce ($11.95). This was a solid dish with firm eggplant in a pleasantly spicy sauce.

Just re-reading this post is making my mouth water as I think about that delicious lamb dish… Mmmm…
