Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood (Hawaii 2018): Best Garlic Shrimp

As I mentioned on my last post on Da Spot Health Foods and Juices Food Truck, we were pleasantly surprised to find not one but two shrimp trucks in the heart of Waikiki. Despite having plans to head over to the North Shore, it’s much more convenient to be able to pick up some tasty garlic shrimp when you can simply walk a couple of minutes to the shrimp trucks at Kuhio and Kanekapolei, next to the Food Pantry.

This corner lot has plenty of covered picnic benches where patrons can enjoy their garlic shrimp purchases. As I mentioned previously, we decided to do a bit of a taste test between the two trucks that were here… Da Spot Health Foods and Juices and Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood. Da Spot was the first up and we quite enjoyed their peeled shrimp simmered in a non-traditional tomato-based sauce with saffron rice.

Blue Water’s version of Garlic Shrimp ($14) was the same price as Da Spot but elevated things up to an entirely whole other level. Presentation was on point with the large shell on shrimp accompanied with rice, salad, corn, a pineapple slice and garnished with an orchid. This is much more representative of the style of garlic shrimp that you’d find on the North Shore. With the shell on, it’s a bit messier to eat but the garlic sauce clings to the shell and begs you to slurp up before tearing it open to get to the plump shrimp inside.

We were so pleased with the garlic shrimp here that we wound up coming back here two more times during our stay in Waikiki.

After trying 3 shrimp trucks on the North Shore, we came to the conclusion that Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood beat them all hands down. Stay tuned for our posts on the shrimp trucks on the North Shore where we break things down and have some surprising results.
